Invoice generator
Fill in the form on the left, watch the invoice take shape on the right, print it or save it as a PDF. No account, no watermark, and the draft never leaves your browser.
Guide
How to use it
- Enter your business details and who you are billing, the preview updates as you type.
- Set the invoice number and dates. Number sequentially (INV-001, INV-002), it matters for your records and, if VAT registered, to HMRC.
- Add line items: description, quantity, rate. Amounts and totals calculate live.
- Choose VAT treatment, 0% if you are not VAT registered.
- Tap Print / save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. The draft autosaves in this browser for next time.
Examples
Line items that read well
"Consulting, w/c 3 August (3 days)" at qty 3, rate 450. Naming the week ends the which-days-were-those email thread before it starts.
"Website redesign, milestone 2 of 3" at qty 1. Milestone invoices tie payment to agreed stages, the description does the contract’s remembering.
"Travel: return rail London-Leeds, 14 July" as its own line keeps reimbursables separate from fees, accountants approve.
Method
How it works
The form drives a live invoice layout, subtotal, VAT and total recalculate on every keystroke with proper currency rounding. Printing uses your browser’s print engine with a stylesheet that isolates the invoice, so "Save as PDF" produces a clean A4 document.
Drafts persist in your browser’s local storage only: convenient between sessions on your machine, invisible to everyone else. Clear the draft with one button when a job ends.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What must a UK invoice legally include?
An invoice number, your name and address, the customer’s, a clear description, the date and the amount. Sole traders bill under their own name, limited companies must show the registered name. VAT invoices add more, see the VAT invoice page.
How do I save it as a PDF?
The print button opens your browser’s print dialog, pick "Save as PDF" as the printer. Every modern browser has it.
Can I add my logo?
This generator is deliberately clean text, it prints crisply and reads as exactly what it is. Letterhead-grade branding belongs in accounting software.
Are my client details stored anywhere?
Only in your browser’s local storage on your device, so the form remembers your draft. Nothing is transmitted, and the clear button wipes it.
What payment terms should I set?
14 days is common for freelance work, 30 for corporates. The due date field states it plainly, unstated terms default legally to 30 days in the UK.
Can I charge late fees?
UK law allows statutory interest (8% plus base rate) on late commercial payments. State terms on the invoice, the payment details line is a good place.
Is this a replacement for accounting software?
It generates the document. Bookkeeping, reminders and tax records remain your job, or your software’s.
