Celsius to Fahrenheit converter
American weather, American recipes: convert both directions instantly, with the nearest gas mark shown for oven temperatures.
Guide
How to use it
- Type Celsius on the left or Fahrenheit on the right, either direction converts live.
- Cooking? Temperatures in the oven range also show the nearest gas mark in blue.
- Kelvin is in the unit list for science homework, and impossible temperatures below absolute zero get called out.

Oven temperatures and gas marks
Fan ovens run about 20 °C below the conventional figures above.
Examples
Worked examples
95 °F sounds apocalyptic; (95 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 = 35 °C. Hot, but a number you can calibrate against.
Bake at 350 °F means 177 °C, so set 180, or 160 fan, gas mark 4. The converter's blue line says the same.
38.5 °C on a UK thermometer is 101.3 °F for the relative who thinks in Fahrenheit. Normal is 37 °C, 98.6 °F.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the Celsius to Fahrenheit formula?
Multiply by 9, divide by 5, add 32. So 20 °C is 68 °F. Going back: subtract 32, multiply by 5, divide by 9.
What is a quick head conversion?
Double the Celsius and add 30. It reads 20 °C as 70 °F (true value 68), close enough for weather between 0 and 35 °C.
Where do the two scales meet?
At −40 degrees, the one temperature that reads the same in both. Also handy: 0 °C is 32 °F (freezing), 37 °C is 98.6 °F (body heat), 100 °C is 212 °F (boiling).
How do gas marks relate?
Gas mark 1 is 275 °F (about 140 °C) and each mark adds 25 °F. A moderate oven, gas 4, is 350 °F or 180 °C. The converter shows the nearest mark for oven-range temperatures.
Should I adjust for a fan oven?
Yes, drop about 20 °C from a conventional recipe temperature. A 200 °C recipe runs at 180 °C fan, which is still 400 °F conventional in American books.
What is Kelvin for?
Science. Kelvin starts at absolute zero (−273.15 °C) and climbs in Celsius-sized steps, so 20 °C is 293.15 K. It is in the unit list here for exactly those homework questions.
