Markdown editor
Type on the left, watch it render on the right. Tables, task lists and code fences included, autosaved in this browser, exportable as .md or standalone HTML.
Guide
How to use it
- Write in the left pane, or select text and hit a toolbar button to wrap it (bold, links, code and the rest).
- The preview follows keystroke by keystroke, what you see is the GitHub-flavoured rendering.
- Your draft autosaves in this browser, close the tab, come back, it is there.
- Export as .md for repos and note apps, or .html for a ready-to-open document.
Examples
Markdown in the wild
The native habitat: headings, code fences and a table render here exactly as GitHub will show them, draft the README where you can see it.
Task lists (- [ ] item) make actionable minutes, and the .html export mails a readable document to people who have never heard of markdown.
Most CMSs and static site generators eat .md directly. Draft here with the preview honest about paragraph breaks, then export.
Method
How it works
The renderer is a purpose-built parser covering the GitHub-flavoured core: headings, emphasis, links, images, lists (task lists included), blockquotes, code fences, tables and rules, with all input HTML-escaped before rendering, pasted angle brackets display as text, they never execute.
Autosave writes to this browser’s local storage on every keystroke, nothing leaves the device, and the Clear button is the only thing that forgets.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which markdown dialect is this?
The GitHub-flavoured working set, the syntax the cheat sheet page documents. Exotic extensions (footnotes, definition lists) are deliberately out, they render differently everywhere.
Where is my draft saved?
In this browser’s local storage on this device, not synced anywhere. For durable storage, export the .md, that file is the document.
Can I paste HTML into it?
It will render as visible text, by design: escaping first is what keeps a static page safe. Markdown in, formatting out.
Why does my single line break not show?
Classic markdown treats single newlines as soft, a blank line makes a paragraph. It is the spec, not a bug, and it is the first thing everyone asks.
Does the HTML export include styling?
A clean readable default (Georgia, sensible measure), self-contained in one file, open it anywhere, print it, mail it.
Is 200,000 characters really enough?
That is a short novel. Past it, split chapters, your scroll wheel will thank you before the limit does.
