Markdown preview
For markdown that arrived raw, a README, an AI answer, a colleague’s notes: paste it and read it as it was meant to look.
Guide
How to use it
- Paste into the left pane (replace the sample), the right pane renders instantly.
- Read, or keep editing, it is the full editor, the preview never locks.
- Need to keep the rendered version? Export .html and you have a document, not a source file.
Examples
Raw markdown, made readable
A README.md opened outside a repo viewer is all hashes and pipes. Pasted here, headings become headings and the table becomes a table.
Chat assistants emit markdown, copied into plain-text fields it degrades into symbol soup. Preview here to read it properly, export HTML to share it.
Pasting a draft doc here catches the classic breakages, the missing blank line before a list, the table missing its separator row, before the PR reviewer does.
Method
How it works
Same renderer as the editor page: GitHub-flavoured core syntax, HTML-escaped input, keystroke-live output. "Preview" is the front door for the paste-and-read intent, the machinery underneath is one and the same.
The most useful trick for previewing: the exported .html is self-contained, previewing and exporting turns anyone’s markdown into a mailable document in two clicks.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why does my pasted table not render?
Tables need the separator row (| --- | --- |) under the header. The sample in the editor shows the shape, most broken tables are one missing row from working.
My list is running into the paragraph above.
A blank line is required before a list starts. Markdown’s answer to most "why is this not rendering" questions is: add a blank line.
Can it render HTML mixed into markdown?
No, deliberately: embedded HTML shows as text on a static page for safety. Pure markdown renders fully.
Is this identical to GitHub’s rendering?
For the core syntax, yes in structure, fonts differ. GitHub-specific extras (mentions, issue links, alerts) are platform features, not markdown.
Will pasting overwrite my saved draft?
The pane is the same autosaving editor, so yes, the last content wins. Export anything precious first.
Does pasted content upload?
No, rendering is local. Confidential notes stay confidential.
