Drop in a logo, a screenshot or a photo and tap the exact pixel you need. HEX, RGB and HSL read out instantly, and the image stays on your machine.

Guide

How to use it

  1. Drop an image onto the tool, or tap to browse.
  2. Click or tap any point on the image, the sampled pixel’s colour fills the readouts.
  3. Copy the HEX, RGB or HSL with the buttons.
  4. Keep sampling, every pick lands in the recent swatches so you can build a small palette from one image.

Examples

What people sample

BRAND FROM A LOGO

No brand guidelines to hand? Sample the logo PNG. Tap the flattest area of the mark, edges are anti-aliased blends that read a few shades off.

MATCH A PHOTO

Pulling an accent colour from product photography keeps a page and its imagery in the same world. Sample, then nudge lightness in HSL to taste.

UI ARCHAEOLOGY

A screenshot of an app you cannot inspect: sample its greys and see what the designers actually used, it is rarely #808080.

Method

How it works

The image draws onto a canvas on your device, tapping reads the pixel at that point with getImageData, one pixel, exact values, no averaging. Coordinates account for display scaling so what you tap is what you get on retina screens too.

Anti-aliasing is the classic trap: pixels on a letter’s edge blend text and background. Sample from the middle of flat areas for the true colour, the readout status shows the exact pixel coordinates to help.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does the colour look different from the original site?

Screenshots inherit your display’s rendering, and image compression shifts pixels slightly. For exactness, sample from an uncompressed PNG rather than a JPG.

Why do I get grey when picking the edge of text?

Edges are anti-aliased, deliberate blends between ink and background. Aim at thicker strokes or flat fills.

Can I average an area instead of one pixel?

This tool is deliberately single-pixel for precision. For a mood-board average, squint, or sample several points and let the swatches show the range.

What image formats work?

JPG, PNG and WebP. iPhone HEIC needs converting first, the HEIC to JPG page handles that.

Is my image uploaded?

No, the canvas and the pixel reads are all local. Unreleased designs and client work stay on your machine.

Can I zoom in for tiny details?

The preview fits your screen. For pixel-level work, crop the region first with the crop tool, then sample from the cropped image.

Body text needs 4.5:1. As text, this colour passes on white and fails on black.

All colour maths happens in your browser. Images you sample from are never uploaded.
