Crop image
Drag the box, keep what matters, download the rest of nothing. Free ratios or fixed ones, cropped on your own device.
Guide
How to use it
- Drop an image in.
- Pick a shape: Free for any rectangle, or lock to 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9.
- Drag inside the box to move it, drag the corner handles to resize. The pixel size of your selection reads out above the image.
- Choose a format and tap Crop image, then download.
Examples
Crops with a purpose
Profile pictures and product grids. Square crops force a decision about what the subject actually is, which is why they usually look better than the original.
Presentation slides and video thumbnails. Cropping a photo to 16:9 beats letting software stretch or letterbox it on your behalf.
Cutting one chart out of a screenshot, trimming a neighbour out of a group photo, or cropping a document scan to just the document.
Method
How it works
The crop box maps your on-screen selection back to the image’s native pixels, so what you drag is exactly what you get, at full original resolution, no matter how the preview is scaled to fit your window.
The selected region is drawn to a canvas and encoded in your chosen format on your device. PNG keeps transparency and exact pixels, JPG and WebP are smaller for photos.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping lose quality?
No. The kept pixels are copied unchanged (PNG) or re-encoded once (JPG/WebP). Cropping is the one edit that is genuinely free.
Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions?
The readout shows your selection’s exact pixels while you drag, get it close, then use the image resizer for a precise final size if a spec demands one.
Why are my crop handles tiny on a phone?
They scale with the touch target standard, drag anywhere inside the box to move it, corners are only for resizing.
Which format should I export?
PNG for screenshots and anything with text, JPG for photos, WebP if the destination supports it and size matters.
Can I undo a crop?
Your original file is untouched, the crop produces a new download. Re-crop from the original as many times as you like.
Is the photo uploaded while I crop?
No. The image, the box and the output all live in your browser’s memory on your machine.
