Scrabble word finder
Enter your rack with ? for blanks and see the highest scoring words first. Built for players who count points, not just letters.
Guide
How to use it
- Type your seven tiles. Enter blanks as ? (up to two).
- Results arrive sorted by points, highest first, with each letter's value on its tile.
- Blanks show as dashed tiles and score zero, so the totals are what you would actually mark down.
- Use Filters with board letters: ends with S for a hook, must contain ING to extend a word already played.
- Tap a word to copy it.
Examples
Worked examples
The most bingo-friendly rack in the game: nine 7-letter words including NASTIER, RETAINS and STAINER. Each scores 7 plus the 50 point bingo bonus.
One blank, big returns: ZEALOTS, LAZIEST and WALTZES all score 15 (the blank scores zero) and all seven tiles go down for the bonus.
Hook hunting: set the ends with filter to S and every result can drop onto an existing word's plural square. The same trick works with starts with RE or UN.
Method
How it works
The finder checks your tiles against every playable word, covers any shortfall with your blanks and totals standard letter values, with blanks at zero. Sorting is by points, then length. Board multipliers are not included because they depend on where you play.
The word list is ENABLE, the public domain list that modern tournament lists grew from, about 168,000 words. The official NWL and Collins lists are proprietary, so a handful of recent additions (famously QI and ZA) are missing here. Everything runs in your browser and your rack is never transmitted.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SOWPODS and TWL?
They are the two tournament word lists. TWL (now NWL) governs North American play, SOWPODS (now Collins CSW) governs most of the rest of the world and includes roughly 30,000 more words. Both are proprietary, so this finder uses ENABLE, the public domain list they were largely built on.
How are blank tiles scored?
A blank scores zero, whatever letter it stands for. Enter it as ? and the finder subtracts its value automatically, showing it as a dashed tile.
What is a bingo?
Playing all seven tiles in one turn, worth a 50 point bonus on top of the word score. Racks like AEINRST are famous because they make many seven letter bingos.
Do the scores include board multipliers?
No. Scores are face values of the letters. Double and triple squares depend on where you play, so check the board and add the multipliers yourself.
What is a hook?
A single letter added to an existing word to make a new one, like turning HEAT into CHEAT. Use the starts with and ends with filters to hunt for hooks.
Which two letter words does the list include?
All the classics: AA, AE, AI, JO, KA, OE, XI, XU and around a hundred more. Two modern additions, QI and ZA, are not in ENABLE, so confirm those against your game's own dictionary before playing them.
Is using a word finder cheating?
In a rated game, yes. Between casual games it is a study tool: check what you missed, learn the bingos you left on your rack and your play improves fast.
