Roll two dice
Two six-sided dice, already set up. Tap roll, read the faces, move your piece.
Guide
How to use it
- Tap Roll, 2d6 is preloaded.
- Read each die for games that care about the faces (doubles, exact pips), and the total for games that only want the sum.
- The history keeps the last ten rolls, useful when someone claims their fourth double in a row.
- Need a different pair? The selectors switch to any count and sides.
Examples
Why 7 keeps coming up
Six of the 36 possible face pairs make 7, more than any other total, one roll in six. Board games are balanced around this: settlements by the 6 and 8, robber on the 7.
Any double is 6 in 36, a 1-in-6 event per roll. Three doubles in a row (Monopoly jail) is 1 in 216, expect it about once a long evening.
Snake eyes and boxcars are each 1 in 36. If a game turn hinges on rolling a 12, that is a once-per-game event, plan accordingly.
Method
How it works
The two dice are rolled as independent cryptographic draws and summed, which produces the correct triangular distribution: 7 most likely, 2 and 12 rarest. A single 1-to-12 draw would be flat and wrong for dice games, the distinction matters and this page does it properly.
Each die shows its own face so doubles-based rules work, and the history records faces and totals for the sceptical.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What are the odds of each total?
Out of 36 combinations: 7 has six ways, 6 and 8 have five, down to one way each for 2 and 12. That is why 7 dominates a long session.
Are doubles more or less likely online?
Identical: 1 in 6 per roll, same as physical dice. The generator has no opinion about symmetry.
Can I use this for Monopoly and Catan?
Yes, both read 2d6 exactly as this page rolls it, faces for doubles, total for movement or production.
My real dice roll 7 constantly, are they broken?
Probably not, 7 is supposed to come up one roll in six. Suspicion should point at dice that avoid 7, not ones that find it.
Can I roll two different dice, like a d6 and a d4?
Roll them one after the other with the selectors, the history keeps both. Mixed pairs in one tap is deliberately left out to keep the page simple.
Is anything stored?
Only the on-screen history, which vanishes when the tab closes. No accounts, no logs.
